For many French properties lighting is very basic, sometimes to the point of just a lampholder on the end of a cable [sound familiar?] or even two wires. When it comes to lighting your home, there are many options that can make those dark areas brighter and lighter. There are plenty of options to consider and the following paragraphs we share how best to achieve a brighter home.
Downlights [recessed lights] are great if you have low ceilings and do not want to have an obtrusive hanging light. The only downside to these lights, they cannot be used in rooms with open beams as there must be a void space of up to 100mm to contain the fitting itself.

Wall lights are by far still popular as they give a good spread of light [around 120˚] and can be fitted if ceilings cannot be accessed.
Uplights [recessed] look great in floors, creating subtle light.
Flourescent strip lights are not only good for kitchens and garage areas but smaller fittings can be fitted under kitchen cupboards for dedicated lighting to working areas of your kitchen.
Spotlights are good for illuminating specific areas of your property and are ideal for exposed beams.
