Having recently visited a customer, for personal reasons, we were directed to a small issue that they had encountered. With some recent sockets added to a room they had proceeded to use a UK heater by using an adaptor. This was no ordinary adaptor, it was a cheap, nasty adaptor with a Chinese mark, which does not conform to French standards. The cheap adaptor had literally melted to the UK heater. Needless to say they have been advised on what to look out for when it comes to purchasing electrical items in France.
The image above shows that the CE is represented by the European Community and China Export, however, look closely and you will see that there are differences, particularly in the spacing of the letters. While any electrical item with an European mark is acceptable for use in the European community, the French like to see the purchase and use of items which is marked with an NF mark and ensures that the product conforms to French standards and legislation.
